Special Information
Clan Scott Society's Annual General Meeting The 2008 Clan Scott Society Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be convened during the Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Festival in Estes Park, Colorado. Situated 70 miles northwest of Denver, the town of Estes Park is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. With the beautiful Colorado Rockies as its backdrop, the Longs Peak Festival is one of the largest in North America drawing 70 clans and over 80,000 fans. This is one of the favorite venues of Clan Scott and it has hosted the AGM several times in recent years. This year the Longs Peak Festival will begin with the first of three nightly tattoos on Thursday, September 4, 2008, and runs through the weekend, ending with the formal Honored Guests Banquet on Sunday night, September 7, 2008. Besides the many clans and venders represented on the field, on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday there will be world class bands, dancers, athletics, jousting, and musical entertainment. For more information about the Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Festival and to order tickets log on to www.scotfest.com or call (970) 586-6308. One of the most popular social events that Clan Scott hosts during the Longs Peak Festival is a Friday night barbeque for our members, their families, and guests. It is an informal get together were we can renew old friendships, make new ones, relax and catch up on the news.We are looking forward to the Friday Night Clan Scott Barbeque again this year. Following the barbeque Clan Scott will be recognized as one of the Honored Clans at the Friday Night Tattoo where we will have special front row seating. Then on Saturday morning Clan Scott will lead the parade down Elkhorn Avenue. This is always a colorful event with thousands of spectators lining the street. Since we will be at the beginning, when we reach the end of the parade route we can stop and watch the rest of the show. Our AGM will be held on Saturday night following the Clan Scott dinner. This will be an important meeting, as the Clan will be electing a new Chieftain and Board of Directors. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this year’s AGM.We will have more information about lodging in the Stag and Thistle. Kelly Scott Davis Rocky Mountain Regional Commissioner, Clan Scott Society Sir Walter Scott's Connection to the Da Vinci Code Abbotsford, the historic home of Sir Walter Scott, has unexpectedly found itself on the Da Vinci Code trail after fans of the blockbuster discovered its library is a remarkable copy of Rosslyn Chapel. According to Scotsman.com: Jacquie Wright, the administrator at Abbotsford, said yesterday: "We have had a number of people try to make the connection between Sir Walter Scott and the Da Vinci Code. "It's been a very interesting time for us here at Abbotsford. Obviously we've known all along that the ceiling of the library is a detailed representation of Rosslyn, but it's only been in the run-up to the release of the film that people have started to call us and suggest there is a link." Needless to say, tourism is expected to be healthy at Abbotsford this summer. Full story: http://news.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=743422006 AOL, AIM.net, Netscape, and spam

Thistle.
Commissioners and Other Appointees
All appointees have been re-appointed by our new Chieftain,
Ken Scott, with the exceptions noted below, and are continuing in their
previous roles. Lloyd Scott, now a Member at Large on the Clan's
Board, will continue answering inquiries but as a Board member rather
than the appointed role of Corresponding Secretary. Similarly,
Forrest Shields. also a Member at Large on our Board, will continue to
support Carl Schnecke as our representatives in Illinois and Deputy
Chieftain Harry Bowman will continue to represent the Clan at events in
Ohio and nearby states.
As previewed in the last Stag & Thistle of 2005, Marylyn Heenan has become Commissioner for Iowa. Marylyn is blazing a new trail -
we have not had a commissioner for that state before. Ron Reeps
has assumed the role of Commissioner of Virginia and has already sponsored a
Burns Night Dinner. Russell "Rusty" Scott has become our
Commissioner for Maryland. Both Ron and Rusty will cover events in nearby
Washington, DC but don't be surprised if Past Chieftains Clark Scott or Charlie
Scott show up and lends a hand.
Soon after Jesse Scott assumed the role of Commissioner for Florida, his
doctor advised him to slow down and take it easy. Jesse reluctantly decided to
give up his commissionership. Jesse assures us that he plans to continue to
contribute but at a slower pace from the comfort of his home.
Patti Patten-Carlen has graciously agreed to assume the
mantle of Commissioner for Florida. As previously announced in the last
Stag &Thistle, Will Scott is the new Deputy Commissioner for Florida.
Both are under the able tutelage of Sue Anne Scott, Regional Commissioner for
Southeast States, the former Florida commissioner, Ken Scott,
our Chieftain, and Deputy Chieftain Harry Bowman who is
spending the winter in Florida this year.
There are at least two more commissioner appointments expected to be
announced soon. Both are pending further communication and clarification with
the candidates.
Unfortunately, two other appointees are missing in action. Our Clan
Genealogist has not responded to annual renewal requests and
has not responded to communication inquiring of his status and intent. Also missing is Arkansas
commissioner.

Dear Members,
It is with pleasure we announce the appointment of Mr.
Kenneth Lewis Morano as Commissioner for their Province of Ontario
effective January 1, 2005. This is our first Commissioner appointment in
Canada and hopefully we will be able to recruit
some assistance for him in the near future. This is a tremendous
undertaking for Ken as geographically Ontario extends from Vermont to Minnesota when
you compare it to the bordering United States. Having had this province as a territory years
ago when I was assigned to Canada I can say he needs to be congratulated for this undertaking.
I look forward to attending the Fergus Festival this summer
where they will celebrate their 50th Year and look forward to meeting
our new Commissioner.
We welcome Ken along with his wife Luise and their three children.
Yours Aye,
Charles F. Scott, FSA Scot

We wish him well and on behalf of the Society we extend our best wishes. Trenda is a relative newcomer to the Society however, she is experienced in what is required to fulfill the duties. Trenda is married to Brian Garrett, Commissioner for Clan McAlpine and has come forward to assist us in Kansas & Missouri. Trenda will report to the Lower Mid West Regional Commissioner Robert Lucas whose region has been expanded to include the State of Missouri. Yours Aye, Charles F.
